Abstract
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive tool used for the evaluation of the morphological features of the skin and detection of abnormalities that are difficult to be assessed by the naked eye. Mycosis fungoides is the most common form of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. It generally affects the skin, but may extend to involve internal organ over time. Early diagnosis helps to treat the disease and prevent progreassion to more serious form. Many benign diseases like chronic dermatitis can mimic it clinically or histologically and should be differentiated from the more serious disease; mycosis fungoides
Objective: To compare the dermoscopic features of mycosis fungoides and how it can be differentiated from the dermoscopic features of chronic dermatitis
Patients and methods: The study is a cross sectional study performed at the Dermatology center - Medical city of Baghdad from (August 2021- September 2022). Twenty five patients with mycosis fungoides and equal numbers of chronic dermatitis evaluated dermoscopically. Dermoscopic examination of representative lesions were performed, and photos were taken with a mobile phone camera attached to the Dermlite DL4 dermoscope. Variables studied includes: 1.vascular patterns (morphology, and distribution), 2.Scales (distribution, and color) 3. Background color, and 4. Pigments patterns (morphology, and distribution) and 5.other features.
Result: The most frequent vascular pattern in MF were linear vessels(84%) followed by dotted vessel (64%) , spermatozoa like blood vessels which is the most striking vascular pattern present in (32%) of cases of MF, while in C.D. the most frequent vascular pattern is dotted vessels in (100%) of cases with different distribution pattern.
